Introducing a truly exceptional M35 DAK helmet, known among collectors as a “Pinkie” due to its rare pinkish-tan camouflage. This ET64 model dates to 1938, confirmed on both the chinstrap end and outer liner band, and retains 85% of its original tan-pink camouflage, which appears to have been field-applied with a brush rather than sprayed.

The helmet originally left the factory as a double decal Heer M35, and both decals are still visible beneath the pink DAK paint — a testament to its authenticity. The original leather liner and chinstrap remain fully intact, with untouched pins, making this helmet 100% complete and untouched since the North African campaign.

  • Condition: Honest wartime wear; extremely well-preserved for North African service

Collector’s Analysis

  • Rarity Factor: Pink DAK helmets are among the rarest M35 variations, particularly with verified North African provenance. Many similar colors are actually Italian, Greek, or Southern Russian theater helmets. This helmet’s distinctive hue confirms desert combat use in Libya and Tunisia.
  • Historical Context: Early North African operations revealed that desert sands contained red coral deposits, giving a pinkish hue. German planners issued modified paint colors (RAL 8000 / 8020) to adapt, making this “Pinkie” an early example of theater-specific camouflage.
  • Authenticity: Original liner, chinstrap, decals, and untouched pins verify genuine battlefield service.
  • Display Potential: A centerpiece helmet with museum-quality appeal; its vibrant color and North African history make it a visually striking display.
